Pandanus Evaluation believe in developing the competencies for individuals and organisations to plan and evaluate their own programs, using evaluation as a tool for program improvement, accountability and learning. Our consultants are skilled in developing creative and interactive processes that engage community members in the design of locally and contextually appropriate, high-quality plans.
When working with clients to develop evaluation frameworks, Pandanus Evaluation regularly includes a capacity development component. At a minimum, the plan is workshopped with key stakeholders and beneficiaries to increase their understanding of, and capacity to conduct on-going monitoring and evaluation of their projects.
Customised evaluation training
Pandanus Evaluation develops and facilitates customised evaluation training to meet the specific needs of clients. In the Northern Territory alone, our bespoke evaluation training programs have provided guidance to over 600 Territorians.
Our training is designed to provide people and groups with the knowledge, tools and resources to plan, conduct and manage evaluation of their programs and activities. We collaborate with the client to design a practical training session or program that incorporates the program policies and procedures. We provide followup mentoring and coaching support where requested.
Since March 2020, the Pandanus Evaluation team has provided customised training online to clients in Australia and Papua New Guinea, including the Starlight Children’s Foundation and the Pacific Women Shaping Pacific Development Support Unit.

Evaluation support and capacity development
Our director Nea Harrison was awarded the Australian Evaluation Society’s Community Development Evaluation Award for Excellence in 2012 for her work in the participatory evaluation of the Palmerston and Tiwi Islands Communities for Children’s Activities (C4C).
The evaluation included a capacity development component for the Tiwi Islands and Palmerston Local C4C Committees, community members, and Community Partner Agencies. This involved target learning outcomes related to skills development, development of individual program logics, merit determination frameworks, and evaluation tools for C4C Activities. It also involved regular review sessions to support Community Partners’ reflect on successes, challenges, outcomes, and learnings.
